The balls maintain the traditions of the Pro V1 franchise: The Pro V1 is better suited to a wider range of launch conditions and swing speeds, although its attributes are best exploited by lower-handicap golfers; the Pro V1x is optimized for higher swing speeds and golfers who produce higher launch angles, and produces less spin. So what are the differences between previous-generation Pro V1s and Pro V1x and the new and improved versions debuting in 2009? The primary improvements, Titleist says, are that both balls now offer more distance, and both have more durable covers. The New 2009 Pro V1 continues the ball's 392-dimple, Staggered Wave pattern, which Titleist says contributes to a more consistent ball flight The New 2009 Pro V1 ball offers these features:
?A reformulated and larger core, compared to previous models, that helps produce greater ball speed and, therefore, more distance.
?A new high-performance Urethane Elastomer cover formulation that improves cover durability.
?A redesigned and thinner Ionomeric casing layer, which targets better spin characteristics around greens for improved scoring
